I am heartbroken to lose a young cousin in such circumstances – heartbroken for his
parents and grandparents, for his siblings and friends, for Israel and for the
worldwide Jewish community. He was a credit to all of them and a terrible loss,
who can never be replaced. As I know, his grandparents already endured enough during
the second world war and it is a tragedy that they should be subject to further sorrows
I believe there must be a higher purpose to explain all the suffering of Israelis since (and before) 1948,
and that one day it will be seen as a contribution to peace in the region for all time.
For now, my family and I will never cease to think of Daniel and his close family,
of all he achieved in his short life, and of his bravery.
We in the Diaspora live in safety because the heroic soldiers of Israel fight on our behalf as well.
I am proud to be his relative.
